5th and 6th Class School Tour

On Monday 19th June, 5th and 6th Class had their school tour outing to Ballyhass Lakes Activity Centre, Mallow, Co. Cork.

Active School Week: Ultimate Frisbee and IT Kidz – the children enjoyed Frisbee and computer activities today.

Parents’ Council: Thank you to our Parents’ Council for their support throughout the year.

Board of Management Report: Access control system will be installed on external doors of school. There will be an upgrade of our CCTV system. A review of Anti-Bullying policy was undertaken.

End of Year and Farewell to Sixth Class Mass: This will take place in the church on Tuesday, June 27th at 10.00a.m. You are all very welcome to join us at this mass. The Sixth class pupils have now completed their primary school education with us and we wish them every success and happiness in the years ahead.

Secondhand books: History Quest Third-Sixth and Small World Geography & Science Third-Sixth are required. If you have these books and would like to donate to the school or sell secondhand please inform your child’s class teacher by tomorrow. Please note books must be in saleable condition.

Uniform: School uniform is available from Fennessy’s. Boys: Navy crested jumper, navy trousers, white shirt, navy and silver striped tie. Girls: Navy crested jumper/cardigan, navy pinafore/skirt, white blouse and navy and silver striped tie. Trousers for girls are permitted (in cold winter months). Navy school shorts (if required) for fine weather. Uniform is worn on three days and school tracksuit on P.E./swimming days. Only the Scoil Mhuire Murroe tracksuit top and matching tracksuit bottoms, please.

After school camogie coaching: We would like to express our thanks to Anne O’Connor for her help with coaching our school teams.

School library books & jerseys: Please ensure that all school library books and jerseys are returned by Monday, June 26th.

School books: You are requested to ensure that all books are purchased and labelled on the outside before returning to school on Wednesday August 30th. Many of the books on the book lists are available secondhand. This is a useful way to recycle books and to offset some of the cost of the books.

Classes will end at 12:00 on Tuesday, June 27th. School re-opens Wednesday, August 30th.

I wish to thank all the staff for their hard work this year. Donagh McCarthy is leaving us and I would like to thank Donagh for all his work for the past nine years in our school and to wish him every success in the future. I would like to thank all the parents for their support and co-operation throughout the past year and wish you and your families a very enjoyable summer. We look forward to seeing the children back safe and sound on Wednesday, August 30th.

First and Second Class School Tour

The children of First and Second Class had a most enjoyable School Tour on Friday 2nd June to Shannon Leisure Centre followed by a visit to Limerick County Library in Dooradoyle.

School News 30th May 2017

Dear Parents,

First Holy Communion: Congratulations to the girls and boys of Second Class who received their First Holy Communion last Saturday, May 20th.  They were: Peter Ashe, Dylan Barry, Ella Dunne Byrnes, Maeve Callanan, Cara Cremins, Reuben Crowe, Lauren Cusack, Declan Ehigie, Ruby Fadden, Alex Guerin, William Hackett, Melanie Holmes, Jenna Johnson, Callum Jordan, Cillian Kinsella, Rebecca McCormack, Kerrie Moroney, Ronan O’Brien, Aishling O’Dwyer, Allyson Quinn, Millie Rickerby, Jack Slattery, Conor Walsh, and Alex Woodland.

We thank their teacher Donagh McCarthy and our two priests, Fr Ryan and Fr. Brennan.  Thank you also to the boys and girls who came to serve and to sing and play in the choir. 

Digital Primary School Showcase

5th and 6thclass attended the Digital Primary Schools Showcase on Thursday April 6th in Mary Immaculate College.  Our Junior Digital Ambassadors were Eoin Callanan, Luke Moroney, Ivan Kondratenko, John O’ Brien and Dannan O’Rourke. They prepared animation projects using Pivot Animator and Movie Maker which they presented at the Showcase along with a number of other Primary Schools.  Both classes attended workshops on Minecraft for Education, a LEGO Education Showcase by MIC students, a music workshop and a Fresh Film workshop. The children enjoyed the day and were a credit to the school.

Soccer blitz: Newport College held their annual 5-a-side soccer tournament on Friday 19th May 2017.  Twenty-one girls and boys from Fifth and Sixth class in Scoil Mhuire Murroe participated.  One of the boys’ teams made it to their semi-final and the girls’ team lost out in the girls’ final to Newport.  Lunch was kindly provided by the school and all of our children really enjoyed the tournament.

East Limerick:  Congratulations to Sarah Jane Flynn who played with the East Limerick team against the City in the semi-final of the Neville Cup.  Sarah Jane played in the second half as full forward.  She reported that the team played their hearts out but were narrowly defeated.  She considered that it was a wonderful experience for all the extra training she received and for the opportunity to make new friends. 

School sign: We are delighted with our new school sign which was erected last week.

Newport College Annual 5-a-side Soccer Competition

Newport College held their annual 5 a side soccer tournament on Friday 19th May 2017. Twenty-one students from fifth and sixth class in  Scoil Mhuire participated. One of the boys’ teams made it to their semi-final and the girls’ team lost out in the girls’ final to Newport. Lunch was kindly provided by the school and all of the students from Murroe really enjoyed the tournament.

Camogie Blitz

Well done to the camogie team who played three exciting matches in the Doon GAA Grounds on May 16th. They had a good win over Caherline but were unsuccessful against strong teams from Oola and Bilboa.
