Christmas Shoebox Appeal

Many thanks for the 110 shoeboxes we received for the Christmas Shoebox Appeal.  These included boxes from the Marian Social Club.  The boxes were collected yesterday and will be making their way to Malawi on Thursday.  Our Student Council, Active School Committee and Green School committee helped to bring them to the collection van.

Hallowe’en 2018

It is said that our Celtic ancestors believed that Hallowe’en was the night when the dead revisited our mortal world to carry people away.   The Celtic druids would dress up in costumes to disguise themselves as spirits and devils so that if they met other spirits or devils during the night they would not carry them away.   This explains why witches and ghosts remain the most popular choices for Hallowe’en costumes.

East Limerick Cumann na mBunscol 7-a-side Girls’ Gaelic Football Final

The girls from Scoil Mhuire N.S. participated in the East Limerick Cumann na mBunscol 7-a-side Girls’ Gaelic Football Final versus Ahane in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick on Monday 22nd October 2018. The girls played for each other with great heart and no little skill during the match. Unfortunately for the Murroe girls however, Ahane proved too strong on the day and they were victorious at the final whistle. Understandably, the girls were very disappointed with the result but they can feel very proud of themselves for reaching the final and for performing to the best of their abilities on the day.

After the finals were over, all of the children repaired to the nearby Supermac’s for some refreshments.

Again, many thanks to Siobhán Flynn [mother of 5th class pupil and footballer, Laura] for having everything ready for us when we arrived in Supermac’s. The food [and especially the ice-cream] helped to ease the pain of defeat. Hopefully the next time we dine there, we’ll be celebrating a victory.

The panel was:

  1. Sarah Nicholas
  2. Laura Flynn
  3. Eve Shanahan
  4. Rebecca Ryan

East Limerick Cumann na mBunscol Boys’ 9-a-side Gaelic Football Final

The boys from Scoil Mhuire N.S. participated in the East Limerick Cumann na mBunscol 9-a-side Boys’ Gaelic Football Final versus Oola in the Gaelic Grounds, Limerick on Monday 22nd October 2018. The boys showed great team spirit, skill and determination during the match. Unfortunately, Oola proved too strong on the day and they ran out winners on a scoreline of Oola 2-6 Murroe 0-3.

Naturally enough the boys were very disappointed with the result but they can feel very proud of themselves for reaching the final and for performing to the best of their abilities on the day. The boys are already looking forward to the hurling competition in 2019.
